Think You're a Beaver??

This is a group for some Old School Ballard-Heads from the 70-90s. They might need some help here from some of us OLDER Ballard reps from the sixties….don’t know who started this, but I thought it would be cool to think about some old stuff. Add what you think needs to be added

1.  Black and red are still your favorite colors.
2.   You've ever just had coffee at the Denny's on 15th and Market
3.    You ate at Zesto's before it was cool to eat at Zesto's
4.   You ever kissed anyone on Sunset Hill.
5.   You still call people who wear leather and smoke "S-Wingers"
6.  You were from Ballard before it was hip to be from Ballard.
7.   You didnt know that the Sands was a strip club until after you graduated.
8.  You never ate in the cafeteria
9.   The only apple machine that you've ever seen in your whole life was in the AC
10. You remember the AC
11. You know who Bennie is
12. You went to GoldenGarden before the rest of the world found out.
13. You can remember skipping class to "just hang out in the parking lot"
14. You know what Lutefisk and Lefse are even though you are not Norwegian
15. You think beavers are cool
16. You ever ran on a second floor wooden track
17. You thought you were cool because you had a locker in "spirit hall".
18. You didnt have a locker in spirit hall and thought those kids were not cool
19. you ever made fun of someone from Kent
20. You ever told a freshman that there was pool on the fourth floor.
21. You drive by the new High School and have no desire to go in there.
22. You remember when there was nothing to do in Ballard.
23. You hung out at Sunset Bowl
24. You were from Ballard before it was cool.
25. Most of your friends had old houses with basements with wood paneling.
26. You still think Ingraham Sucks.
27. You went to have all-you-can-eat pizza at Godfathers for lunch, but only    had about 20 minutes to stuff your face
28. You didn't get funny looks from people if you said "I'm going to get some Dicks" and in fact, people wanted to either go with you and wanted you to bring some Dicks back
29. You remember the old J.C.Penny’s on Market St.

30. you used to use the sand trail at sunset park to get to the gardens. (don't forget the rope swing that used to be down there).
31 You went to Webster Elementry
32. You remember when there wasn't any speed bumps at the gardens
33. when you used to go to dairy queen after a little league baseball game. (now its scooters)
34. You remeber skating down blue ridge and it was all black top
35. You remember Arts
36. You remember Pizza and Pipes
37. You got a job because of the shop class you took
38. You remember the first Adams Elementary, and went to the last open house
39. Vita Del Market
40. You remember Ray's when it was a boat house
41. Going to Pizza Petes
42. Kress's on market
43. Grilled cheese and sidewalk sundaes at the cafe on 65th and 32nd
44. When the Back Stage was the Ballard Theater & Phil's Jewelry
45. BARDAHL--Add It To Your Oil -- Add It To Your Gas
46. TRADEWELL / PAY N SAVE
47. GilmanPark
48. BURGERAMA and Kurly-Kone
49. The submarine races at Golden Gardens
50. When Kresses was the "5 & dime store"
51. When the lot behind the gas station next to BHS was turned into a trampoline playground at only .50cents each for a whole hour to jump
52. When Zesto's didn't have indoor seating
53. The Vikings and Varsuvians "secret" Hell night
54. The hot rod races on Shilshole Ave
55. Paul’s Candy store on 32nd by WebsterSchool with boxes of penny candy
56. The corner soda fountain a block N. of BHS w/the two sisters who made great burgers.
57. "Pinky" burger at Zestos's.
58. Ballard HS had portables.

Hey, this isn't just for 70'-90's heads.  It's for us 60's heads too. Before the "apple machine "was in the AC, it was in the hall right before one went outside to go to the cafeteria.  I was in charge of it in '68.  Wow, #30--I'd temporarily forgotten!   Cool!<br /><br />How about having a cherry coke at Art Olsen's?  Or going to the original  Ballard Library and just longing to be able to check out books from downstairs (no limit!).

This comment is to dispell the rumours of the swimming pool on the fourth floor....it IS true, because we kyped the key from the janitors office--it was above the seats in the auditorium toward the back. Their was a large wooden thing that looked like a hot-tub with pipes running out of it. It flushed all the toilets in the school. I'm not naming names, but someone put RED powder-paint (3 containers) in, and they all flushed red for a week. We stood outside the ladies restrooms and LAUGHED at the looks on their faces. Actually, according to my father, the swimming pool was on the roof of the school and the seniors sold tickets to the incoming freshman. Believe it or not!

I was born in Ballard Hospital when it was above Lafferty's.  How many others were born there?

Terri & I were also born at good ole Ballard hosp. I think our whole family was born there. My mom was born on a kitchen table across the street from Ballard High. (she loves telling that story) one of 9 kids.

MIA's, Deceased & Your Contact Info

Fellow Beavers - Please continue to contact one of the 40th's committee members should you have any updated info re: our many MIA's or if your hear of any other Beaver who has passed on before us. We also respect anyone's wish of privacy who do not want their info made public.

Currently, The Committee is not sharing, publishing or giving out classmates contact information unless and until we have your permission.

Those in favor of having a 40th Reunion "directory" so to speak wherein you agree to share your contact info should respond so in this Blog......Thanks. m2

Does anyone know what became of Dick Reynolds? He was friends with Nick Ritus (sp?). Nick was gay and died in San Francisco. I believe he was shot while walking down the street. May be wrong on that. Always thought Dick might have been gay too. Anyone know anything?

Nick was killed fairly soon after graduation, as I recall. Like within five years.

45th or 50th ??

Should we wait another decade or cut it in half? Luncheon? Dinner? in Ballard?

I think a 45 year daytime event would be ideal. Luncheon? That would give us more time with each other instead of staying up all night. We'd actually be functioning the next day.

I would be for a 45th. I would prefer an evening but of course that is now. Who knows in 5 years I may have gotten old. It did seem like alot of people left around 10.
I was up bright eyed and bushy tailed at 7 the next day. Had no choice but I am a night owl anyway. Sundays are busy days for me.

Couldn't make the 30th or the 40th so maybe it should be 45. After all none of us are getting any younger. We have already lost some good friends. The venue, time of day whatever makes no difference to me.

I would love it if we could have a 45th - missed the 40th because of travel commitments, but have really enjoyed seeing the few photos posted of the event so far. Everyone looks the same!!

I believe that we "Beavers and Beavettes" should definitely try to get together for a 45-year LONG lunch, since we all have had so many sorded "happenings" in our separate lives, it's hard to communicate in less than 2 or 3 hours.So much to say, and so little time!

I think I did this before, but I'll do it again. Yes, we should have a 45th. When we get to the ages we are, ten years is too long a time between reunion.

I think a nice long lunch time reuion for the 45th would be great, with meal plates served. By then many more will be less steady. The fun can always continue into the night as friends reconnect, hit favorite night spots.

Our 40th Reunion - 2008

Well, I trust everyone has recovered from last Saturday... I hope so. I thought I'd start this page up - seems like a good a place as any to keep in touch, per se...

So, what did you all think of the set up, the food, the sounds, everything...and be honest, we can take. We want to know what worked, what didn't, what to improve on for our next get together...be that a 45th or the Golden Beaver 50th.

Personally, I enjoyed seeing everyone and all those hugs and the memories came flooding back and I'm so glad that you all came!

We ARE the mighty, mighty Beavers.....and everywhere we go.....

I had a GREAT time! So many memories came flooding back!! The food left a bit to be desired, but was decent. The sound system could have been better, but the tunes at the end of the night made for some good dancing for those of us that did dance. The decorations were nice, well suited for the occasion, and the committee put in some good thought for the get together. I think a luncheon would be better for us aging Beavers next time. It would be probably a lot more reasonable in cost, as this one was a little too costly for what was put on. Where was the money spent? The food? The room? Where? For the money we spent, I expected a little more than what we got.

I thought it was excellent. It was wonderful to see so many old friends. The venue was perfect with the sun setting on the sound, food was good, music was good (thanks to Marnee) but the playing of the music was a little sketchy. so certain people had to babysit the cd player.

Thanks everyone for your hard work in making this evening a success. It seemed a little loose, not a lot of structure, but that was part of the charm also. I left Ballard in sophomore year and a lot of peoiple didn;t remember me, nor I them, but it was so glad to reconnect with the ones that did.

I really enjoyed the evening. Thank you committee for all your work. I liked the fact it was laid back it was much more relaxing.
The food left alot to be desired but I was not there for that so it was ok.
I wish the PA worked better but you know things always happen you just do with what you have. Maybe someone should have had duct tape. Remember that for next time.

I better sound system for the music and pa. Get a different caterer, the food left much to be desired, and future go arounds a day time luncheon would be good. Many will not be able to handle buffet lines, with our canes or walkers by then.

Hello Marnee & all Beavers & Beavettes: The party was great, but there was some glitches in the sound system. For the next one, please allow me to provide my small P.A. and CD setup with microphones---I'll be glad to do that!! By the next reunion the 60's songs will still live on, of course. I still remember using the audio-visual record players at the Monroe Jr. High penny movies+battles of the bands. We were the Warlocks, they were the Pacifics.......Vanilla Fudge forever!!! Don't forget JIMI!!!
